Educare New Orleans

Educare New Orleans is an early learning facility providing center-based developmental care for children from birth to five years old. The operational program is based on an innovative model for optimized learning during the vital early years, and builds on the best of similar Educare facilities in Chicago, Denver, Omaha, and Tulsa.

The facility, as designed by Broadmoor Design Group and associated architect RDG Planning & Design, is located on the site of the former St. Bernard Housing Development alongside a new community of multi-phase developments, which includes 500 units of mixed-income housing – Columbia Parc at the Bayou District, an assisted living center for seniors, an elementary charter school, retail, and other uses.

The design of the Educare center incorporates three remaining historic brick structures from the former housing project. The exteriors of these buildings have been restored, and interconnected with new, sensitively-designed additions to create a single 25,000 square foot facility. The new construction is designed to offer a lighter, glassier counterpoint to the heavy masonry of the existing buildings, while offering state of the art learning spaces that facilitate opportunities for positive interactions between staff, children and parents that nurture and stimulate healthy early childhood development. Outdoor play spaces are immediately accessible from classrooms via covered play porches. The play spaces are subdivided into age-appropriate zones and are designed to be fully accessible to all children.
